I love Batman: Arkham Asylum, its ridiculously fun to play and it’s fairly obvious a lot of love went into it as it has been polished up and presented really nicely. As Batman you can pick off your enemies one by one, then disappear into the shadows leaving only bewilderment and fear. However it seems there’s one horror that even Batman is powerless against – that of bad typeface selection.

I don’t know what it is with Algerian in particular but it has to be one of my most hated fonts. Maybe it’s trying so hard to be this old eccentric Victorian typeface when it’s clearly not (it was created in 1988…) or maybe its just the complete overuse by anyone with a word publishing program and a printer. I think I might even rank it lower than comic sans. At least ’see-sans’ isn’t trying to be something it isn’t (such as: good).

It seems I’m not alone as I found a Algerian hate Flickr group who share my resentment.

(PS. I use the words ‘font’ and ‘typeface’ interchangably although I know they are different things – it just breaks up having to write the same word again and again in consecutive sentences)
